Novos Baianos – Farol da Barra
The final Novos Baianos album, released in 1978, Farol da Barra closes the story of the Brazilian collective who blended samba, rock and tropicália like no one else. Long overshadowed by their masterpiece Acabou Chorare, it carries the same sunlit, freewheeling energy, named after the famous lighthouse watching over Salvador de Bahia. Side A opens with the title track, written by Galvão and Caetano Veloso, before unfurling playful covers and homegrown gems like Lá Vem A Baiana and Boogie Woogie Do Rato. Original copies are notoriously hard to find: Music On Vinyl reissues it here as a limited edition on cream coloured vinyl. A long-awaited reissue worth pre-ordering while stock lasts.
