John beltran – Roots EP
John Beltran, a Michigan ambient-techno figure, is one of those producers spotted early by Carl Craig, who signed his first 12"s to his label back in the 90s. His melodic, jazz-tinged signature runs through "My Faith in You" and "Gratiot" — the latter named after one of Detroit's main arteries, nodding to the roots that give the EP its title. On the flip, the Gratiot remix comes from Fireground, the Neapolitan duo Angela and Daniele (R12 Records, with a past on Tresor), pushing the track toward a more physical, rhythm-driven techno.
