Tori AMOS – Professional Widow (reissue)
A gorgeous anomaly: Tori Amos, the American pianist and songwriter worlds away from the clubs, catapulted up the dance charts by Armand Van Helden's remix. His 'Star Trunk Funkin' Mix' takes the 'it's gotta be big' hook and turns it into a speed garage anthem — monstrous bassline, raw energy — a landmark in late-90s house. The B-side holds MK's (Marc Kinchen) versions, deeper and rounder, his 'Mk Vampire Dub' sliding into hypnotic deep house. Between Armand's funk dub and MK's club touch, this reissue gathers four readings of a track that became a reference point. For anyone who loves it when pop gets kidnapped by the dancefloor.
